Lawn Boy Mowers - Quality and Reliability Built In

!±8± Lawn Boy Mowers - Quality and Reliability Built In

Lawn Boy mowers have been around for over 70 years and are built on a solid history of quality and reliability. The company was originally started by Ole Evinrude, who started the Evinrude outboard motor company. The technology and know-how behind the outboard motors was used in the motors for Lawn Boy lawn mowers, which is one of the reasons they're so well known for their motors.

The Lawn Boy company has changed ownership a number of times over the years, but the quality of their equipment has remained consistent throughout their history. They're currently owned by Toro, another well-known name in lawn mowers, but kept as a separate brand of their own.

One change that has happened over the years is that they have started using motors from other companies, such as Honda, Tecumseh and Briggs & Stratton. They're still very particular about the models they use, however, so the reliability hasn't changed.

All of Lawn Boy's current models are walk behind mowers - they don't make any riding mowers, in spite of having introduced new zero turn technology several years ago. Their prices range from approximately 0 to 0, depending on the size and output of the engine and the size of the mower itself.

There are several places you can buy Lawn Boy equipment, but you'll probably find the best deals online. Amazon.com and other websites sell them, and even with shipping costs you will usually save some money compared to your local lawn mower shop.

Keep in mind that when you buy online, however, you won't have the same kind of service and support as you would if you buy from a local dealer. Because Lawn Boy uses common engines in their mowers from well-known engine manufacturers, this isn't as big an issue as it seems since most lawn mower repair shops will be able to work on the engines if you have a problem.

Just be sure that your local shop can get other Lawn Boy parts if you buy online however. Having to ship the mower back and forth to a service center will quickly eat up any savings you might have found online.

Used Boat Lifts

!±8± Used Boat Lifts

Used boatlifts can prove to be more advantageous than purchasing a new one because of cost. There are numerous print and cyber ads selling all kinds of used boatlifts including custom made and floating lifts manufactured by companies that have international fame and guarantee their used lifts. Although a used boatlift might not have the latest upgrades or be the latest model, most are made to last with superior performance parts. Numerous sellers are ready to sell their used boatlifts at most affordable prices.

Machines are always unpredictable in nature no matter what company manufactured them. One can never promise the efficiency of the machine, although there is always a warranty period for each electronic or machinery product. Most of the used boatlifts that are sold are not necessarily inferior in features or efficiency level. Rather, most owners decide to sell their boatlifts because they don't use it or don't have enough time to utilize it to its full capacity.

There are a number of models available previously owned. The names of the boatlifts are very long and very speicific. Dozens or even hundreds of combinations of parts are available. Here is one example: The Boatfloater of galvanized steel tanks, 9.9 hp Evinrude outboard motor with Minnekota trolling motor w/mount, hydraulic boat lifts that has not been used for a few years are often for sale at very reasonable rates and are great bargains for economical boatlift buyers.

Make sure you take a look at all the parts before buying a used boatlift. Used boatlifts do not generally come with warranties.

Two and Four Stroke Outboard Engines

!±8± Two and Four Stroke Outboard Engines

Outboard engines fall into two main categories; 2 stroke and 4 stroke outboards. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages and the type you pick will depend on the intended use. This guide will help you choose which outboard engine is best for your type of boat.

2 Stroke Outboards

2 stroke engines are lighter and faster so when speed and acceleration are required, this would be the engine of choice. 2 strokes are also generally cheaper and keep their value better when it comes to resale. 2 stroke outboards have been in existence for about 80 years so spares are easily found, making repairs less troublesome. Also, the design on these engines is less complex than a 4 stroke, meaning problems are less likely to arise.

There are some disadvantages to the 2 stroke engine. 2 stroke engines are more pollutive than 4 stroke engines so they are not so kind on the environment. Their engines are lubricated by the oil that is mixed into the gasoline, meaning the exhaust is smoky and contains unburned oil, which in turn pollutes the water.

With new regulations, outboard manufacturers are looking to find new ways of producing the same power with less pollution.

Some 2 stroke outboard engine manufacturers include Mercury, Nissan, Yamaha and Evinrude.

4 Stroke Outboards

4 stroke engines are quieter, smoother and more economical. Heavier with slower acceleration, they are normally chosen for lakes and rivers. With less pollution and smoke they are also kinder to the environment. If you're after a quieter, smoother ride, then the 4 stroke outboard is the better choice.

4 stroke outboards are more complicated with more parts so they often require repairs more often. When repairs are needed they tend to be more expensive and spare parts can be harder to source.

4 stroke outboards are generally heavier than 2 stroke outboards, so if you own a smaller boat it may not be able to hold the weight of a 4 stroke engine.

Because 4 stroke engines are newer, they are continually being improved to make purchase and repair easier.

Manufacturers of 4 stroke outboards include Johnson, Honda, Mercury, Nissan, Suzuki, Tohatsu and Yamaha.

Environmentally Friendly Outboards

If you're looking for a new outboard, it's worthwhile considering one of the newer, environmentally friendly models. Less pollution, reduced noise, better fuel economy and lower running costs are amongst the advantages.

The Mechanical Differences Between 2 and 4 Stroke Outboards

The terms "2 stroke" and "4 stroke" refer to the number of times the piston moves during one firing cycle of the engine. In the 4 stroke engine, the four movements, or strokes, are:

Intake stroke: With the intake valve open, the piston moves down allowing a mixture of air and fuel to enter the combustion chamber.

Compression stroke: The piston moves up the cylinder with the valves closed, so that the air-fuel mixture is compressed.

Combustion stroke: With the valves still closed, the fuel is ignited by the spark plug. The explosion pushes the piston down again.

Exhaust stroke: The exhaust valve opens and the piston moves up to push the exhaust gasses out of the chamber so the process can be repeated.

In a 2 stroke engine, there are only two movements of the piston for each combustion; one up and one down:

Combustion stroke: Combustion of fuel drives the piston downwards. As the piston moves down, it exposes an exhaust vent and fuel inlet in the wall of the cylinder allowing exhaust gasses out, and new air and fuel to be sucked in.

Compression stroke: As the piston moves back up, it blocks off the exhaust vent and fuel inlet and thus compresses the air/fuel mixture. The spark plug ignites the air and fuel causing the piston to move down again.

The fuel inlet and the exhaust vent in the wall of the cylinder eliminate the need for valves and the mechanism for opening and closing them which is why 2 stroke engines are much simpler in design.

The Wellcraft 210 Sportsman

!±8± The Wellcraft 210 Sportsman

Although Wellcraft's best known for making fishing boats, it does make one model that's also a great ski boat.

The Wellcraft 210 Sportsman is a 21 foot long sport cruiser that's designed for family fun. The classic open cockpit design is perfect for a water ski or wake boarding trip and for angling. Even though it's a small open cockpit boat, the 210 Sportsman is loaded with features normally found in bigger boats.

Some great electronics options are available for the cockpit including a Raymarine A65 combination chart plotter and fish finder. A Sirius Satellite Radio system that includes a CD player, an AM/FM radio, an MP3 jack and four speakers is also available.

The cockpit features nine beverage holders, a bimini top, an 80 quart baitwell, a 48 quart cooler, fish boxes, a raw water wash down, a tackle tray and pedestal seats. Even on this smaller model Wellcraft adds a lot of features for the fisherman. So this is truly a good boat for the entire family. Serious fishermen can replace the bimini top with a sport arch that contains additional rod holders. It has storage for both rods and skis or wakeboards so everybody can enjoy their favorite activity out on the water.

One of the best options available for a boat this small is the fully equipped head. There's a fully self contained head with a toilet paper holder and a storage compartment. Another great option is a ski pylon for water sports lovers.

The mechanical system gives owners a bait well pump and a hydraulic lift steering. There's also a state of the art electrical system with submersible rated electrical connections so the fish finder and chart plotter will always have power. All of the switches are weather resistant so the 210 Sportsman will keep running even in bad weather.

Stainless steel rails and a thick fiberglass hull make for a classic sleek look. Three optional colors yellow, blue and black make this one colorful boat. Another great option is a freshwater system that includes a shower so the family can wash the salt off after a day of water sports.

Like all Wellcraft boats, the 210 Sportsman has a large number of engine options for more power. There are five Evinrude E-Tec engines available for the 210 Sportsman; the 150,200,225,250 and 200 E-Tec HD for those who prefer diesel. There's also four Yamaha four stroke engines that can be ordered with the 210 Sportsman. These include the F 150, the F 200, the F-225 and the F-250.

If you're looking for a small but fully loaded fishing or ski boat the 210 Sporstman is the boat for you.
